Top UK Motorcycling Routes
After a year like no other, lockdown restrictions are beginning to ease and planning a ride out on your bike is now possible. One of the best things about owning a motorcycle is the freedom it gives you to hit the open road with journeys and discovery through beautiful destinations.
Although the UK will have its fair share of traffic in built-up areas as normal life starts to resume, there are some gems out there that make for beautiful and exciting motorcycle rides. Beginners: Glasgow to Inverness – Scotland
The A82 is a favourite among bikers as it provides a truly free experience with smooth roads for travellers to really enjoy a ride without worrying about traffic or rough terrain.
The road itself smoothly makes its way across the beautiful Scottish landscape through famous locations such as Loch Lomond, Glen Coe and past Loch Ness. A good road for beginners, there are plenty of places to stop along the way before carrying on through the beautiful scenery.
Intermediate: Snowdonia National Park, Wales
Popular with bike tour operators and independent riders alike, the Snowdonia National Park is a breath-taking route that any motorcycling enthusiast needs to visit.
More popular routes will cover up to 200 miles and makes for a true adventure over the mountainous terrain and valleys. Take your time to enjoy the view and stay at one of the many biker-friendly accommodation options along the way and master the stunning scenery at your own pace. As always, try to visit during the spring or summer, as autumn and wintry weather will make visibility and safety an issue.
Expert: HardKnott Pass, The Lake District, England
The Lake District is a great area for bikers to enjoy, although it is better suited for more experienced riders as it covers some pretty variable heights and is seen as somewhat of a challenge.
This route is more about control and care rather than speed, with many twists and turns as you make your way through the valley. Although you won’t be able to let loose on the open road, Hardknott Pass is a great adventure with some beautiful views and once completed will leave a real sense of achievement once conquered.
