History of the Triumph Spitfire

The Spitfire was produced for Standard-Triumph in 1957 by Italian car designer Giovanni Michelotti, with many reviewers praising the model for its stylishly sleek good looks and lashings of Italian flair.

It launched at the London Motor Show in 1962 before being manufactured at the Standard-Triumph works in Coventry.

This sporty two-seater had a 18 year production run, outliving its long-time rival the MG Midget by a year.

When production of the Spitfire ended, the final car to roll off the production line was an Inca yellow model for the UK market, boasting a hardtop and overdrive.

It is now displayed at the British Motor Heritage Museum at Gaydon.

Known for its sweet driving style and fun qualities the Spitfire is popular around the world, with many people ploughing lots of love and attention into restoring these Triumph vehicles back to their former glory to this day.
