As summer comes to a close, you might still be thinking about taking some last minute get aways to really make the most of your motorhome. The UK is full of motorhome-friendly spots for you to camp at and enjoy, so we’ve pulled together a list of ten ideas that might inspire you for your next trip.
1. Trevella Park, Newquay
If you’re thinking of going down south-west, you could head for this premium site close to Crantock Beach, with spacious pitches and great facilities. The site and local beach are dog-friendly, making it a great choice for pet owners, and there’s even an outdoor swimming pool if you fancy a dip.
2. South Lytchett Manor, Dorset
South Lytchett Manor is an award-winning campsite known for its immaculate grounds and eco-friendly approach. It’s only three miles from Poole, and is also great for dogs. There are also lots of frequent transport links which make it easy to get around without a car – you can even get the ferry from Poole to the Channel Islands.
3. Hebden Bridge Club Campsite, West Yorkshire
If you fancy something a bit quieter and adults-only, you could choose this peaceful, back-to-basics site nestled in a wooded valley. It’s close to the Haworth Parsonage, home to the Brontë sisters, and keen walkers can amble up over the Moors, Pennine Way and Hardcastle Crags for gorgeous scenery.
4. Sango Sands Oasis, Durness
This site in north-west Scotland offers clifftop pitches overlooking white, sandy beaches and the North Atlantic. It’s also a popular stopping point on the famous North Coast 500 driving route. Popular with families, this site is perfect for if you want to switch off from the outside world – the phone signal is known to be poor, and it’s recommended to download offline maps of the area before you go.
5. Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park, Somerset
This is an adults-only site just outside Bath, overlooking a scenic lake. The park is based on a garden theme, with flowers, lawns and shrubs everywhere. If you fancy fishing, there’s a fishing lake nearby, and of course the site is close to Bath, where you can find all manner of tea shops and the historic Spa.
6. Whitefield Forest Touring Park, Isle of Wight
Whitefield Forest Touring Park is located on the Isle of Wight, developed to sit in harmony with the neighbouring woodland. Take a gander around the site’s woodland walk to see red squirrels and woodpeckers, and you can even bring your dog (as long as they’re kept on a leash).
7. Riverside Touring Park, Betws-y-Coed
This is a well-positioned site in the heart of a popular, beautiful Welsh village. Its location makes it a great choice for those looking to explore Snowdonia. It’s also a good choice for families, with restaurants and attractions just a few minutes away.
8. Kielder Campsite, Northumberland
Kielder Campsite is a remote site within Kielder Water and Forest Park, known for dark skies – making it perfect for a bit of stargazing. There’s no mobile signal here, but you’ll find plenty of things to do, with Hermitage Castle less than half an hour away (by car) and the Kielder Observatory twenty minutes away.
9. Sandyhills Bay Caravan Park, Dumfries & Galloway
Sandyhills Bay Caravan Park is a coastal site just steps from a quiet sandy beach. It’s great for families, with local farm parks and play parks suitable for children. If you fancy biking, there are bike trails nearby (including the 7stanes mountain bike trails) and for keen birdwatchers, RSPB Mersehead reserve is just a short distance away.
10. Eye Kettleby Lakes, Leicestershire
This is a modern, adults-only touring park built around a series of well-kept fishing lakes – so it’s perfect if you fancy casting your line. The heart of Melton Mowbray is only a few miles away, making it easy to reach cinemas, museums, spas and even a pie experience.
