Celebrate Father’s Day in retro style

Beaulieu is the place to be this Sunday (June 17th) for an unforgettable motor-themed Father’s Day, as it hosts its annual Hot Rod and Custom Drive-In Day.

This year’s event will be packed full of hundreds of the coolest custom cars, an eclectic mix of vintage music and entertainment, and the launch of Beaulieu’s brand-new summer exhibition, The Art of Kustom.

Motor Madness

As the South’s largest Hot Rod and Custom event, this Sunday’s spectacular will be the best place to check out hundreds of classic vehicles, from Hot Rods and American Muscle cars to Chops and Bobbers.

Local club sponsors, Solent Renegades, are putting on a display of American motors, while there’ll be a range of prizes available in a host of categories including ‘best custom’ and ‘best bike/scooter’.

The most prestigious award up for grabs is the People’s Choice Award, which will be chosen by a public vote. The winner of the vote will receive the prestigious Beaulieu trophy.

‘The Art of Kustom’

This Sunday also sees the launch of Beaulieu’s brand-new summer exhibition, The Art of Kustom, created by world-renowned car customiser Andy Saunders.

An artist that uses cars as his canvas, Saunders has produced a number of colourful, innovative creations that have been gathered from private collections across Europe especially for this summer’s exhibition.

The star of the show will be Metropolis, Saunders’ latest work that will be unveiled this weekend. The project has seen him transform a rusting 1939 Peugeot 202 into an art-deco inspired masterpiece that is likely to wow audiences.

Retro Entertainment

Alongside the cars, visitors can check out the Vintage Village, hosted by Bows and Braces.

Celebrating all things old-fashioned, it’s the perfect place to pick up retro souvenirs dating back to the 1920s, selling everything from ladies fashion to vintage vinyl.

For those who like to go all in, there’ll even be a vintage hair parlour on-site, serving up iconic retro looks like the 40’s Victory Rolls and the 60’s Beehive.

A new do might even help visitors pick up a prize in the event’s popular competitions, open to females, males, and groups.

Live music will be on throughout the day, with bands playing everything from 50’s rock and roll to mariachi. For those looking to get involved, Jitterbug Jive will be making sure Father’s Day goes with a swing by offering free Lindy Hop tutorials throughout the day.
