FJ Welcomes Young Morris Minor Enthusiasts

In order to keep our beloved classics on the road, it's important that we can support the younger generation in their passion for the industry. However, many aspiring young classic owners have often struggled to obtain insurance for their pride and joy at an affordable rate which is why we created our young enthusiasts scheme.

Young enthusiast qualifying criteria for 18-24 year olds include the following:

  • The car must be over 20 years of age
  • The owner must limit their mileage to either 3000 or 5000 miles per year depending on the age of the vehicle
  • Young drivers need to have held a licence for a minimum of 12 months

At Footman James we've been working with the Morris Minor Owner's Club for many years, and in 2014 we partnered to create an exclusive addition to this scheme which allows club members as young as 17 years old to get cover - even with a provisional licence!

The Morris Minor Owners Club has over 14,000 members spanning 50 branches across the UK. With an ambitious goal of protecting the 1.6 million Moggies built between 1948 and 1971, we hope this young enthusiasts scheme provides a contribution in ensuring these cars stay on the roads for decades to come.

Currently over 475 young enthusiasts are taking advantage of the scheme. The most popular model on cover is the Morris Minor, as you may expect, followed by the Austin Mini and Land Rover 90. We even have some young pre-war enthusiasts, with the oldest car on cover a Ford Model T from 1919. The youngest cars on cover are a 2020 AK Cobra and a 2020 Caterham Academy road-legal novice race car.
