The very first start-up of a painstaking classic F1 restoration project will take place at the annual Spring Autojumble.

Footman James partners, National Motor Museum , will let show-goers witness the roar of their rebuilt British Racing Motors (BRM) 1950 V16, during the Beaulieu Spring Autojumble on May 19.

The V-16 racing engine was created in 1947 by BRM and designed for competing in Formula One racing in the wake of World War II.

A Track Legend

The treasured F1 racer shot to fame being driven by motorsport legends Juan Manuel Fangio and Reg Parnellin during the fifties.

To celebrate its long and complicated restoration, the engine will be started at 3pm at a special event at the Beaulieu Events Arena.

The highly complex supercharged engine’s essential rebuild is thanks to the National Motor Museum Trust, a partner of Footman James, and with help from donations to the BRM Preservation Appeal.

 An ‘Unmissable Event’

The start-up is not the only crowd pleaser due at the Autojumble, which takes place each year, welcoming enthusiasts from all across Europe.

Celebrations for the 70th anniversary of a true British classic – the Morris Minor – will also be underway, with more than 300 models being showcased at the two-day event.

On Sunday, May 20, a section of the show is being dedicated to the iconic Land Rover, and will see the buying, selling and swapping of all things related to the legendary 4x4 under the banner, Land Rover Rummage.

Around 1,000 stands will also be exhibiting, selling classic vehicle parts, automobilia and bargains.

However, the meticulous restoration project is undoubtedly the star of the show.

Doug Hill, manager and chief engineer, says: “This is an iconic British racing car and the Spring Autojumble, an unmissable event on the classic car enthusiasts’ calendar and one of Beaulieu’s biggest and best-loved events, is the perfect place for this historic start-up.”
