There’s a group of women who are empowering others through the power and passion of motorbikes.
With a simple premise, born from a love of riding bikes, three London-based friends, Gemma Harrison, Maite Storni and Namin Cho, have started something amazing, all from a backstreet workshop in the capital.
Aimed at removing the stigma that girls can’t ride bikes, the trio open the doors to first-time riders (and offer their own bikes for women who want to ride for the first time) to seasoned professionals. A relatively new offering, VC London started in 2015 and has grown in to something special.
VC London began with an Instagram account to try and reach other women, not necessarily in London, to go for a ride out, join events, make friends and empower each other to do more together.
Today, VC London stands for so much more than just going for a ride. Through events, camps, talks, workshops, and lessons for first-time riders, the trio spread the word around the world that women should get out there and do what they love, including riding a motorbike.
There’s something for everyone to enjoy, learn and talk about. For UK residents, there are monthly meet-ups, ride outs and the annual Camp VC based in Wales. For those biker chicks further afield, VC London has a range of events in other countries including America, Belgium and The Netherlands (check out their international events page for more information).
Most notably, it’s worth taking a look at the Wales-based Camp VC. It’s a weekend festival that includes everything from skateboarding, dirt biking and flat track to climbing and automotive sport. The founders wanted to provide a safe place to support and encourage anyone to get into the hobbies and passions they’ve always wanted to try and that’s exactly what Camp VC stands for.
This year’s event will take place from 2-4 August in Wales and will have talks, discussions and live music all in the Brecon Beacons. Keep an eye on the release date for tickets – we doubt you’ll want to miss it.
Whether you’re a seasoned biker looking to make new friends and have a ride out or thinking about riding for the first time, VC London has you covered and in a safe and no judgement zone.
