Monterey Motorsports Reunion 2017

Date: 17 August, 2017

Location: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, 1021 Monterey-Salinas Highway, Salinas, California

This year, the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca celebrates its 60th year as one of the world’s finest tracks. Famed for the perilous ‘Corkscrew’ turn, it’s got a lot of motorsport history engrained on the tarmac.

It’s the perfect setting for one of the interesting classic motorsport events in the calendar; the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

Here’s everything you need to know...

The star of Monterey Classic Car Week

The reunion takes place during the Monterey Classic Car Week. It isn’t only the biggest event across the whole week, it’s the only event where classic cars actually get to hit the track and race.

At this year’s event, you can expect to see over 500 cars gracing the starting grid. With only the finest cars allowed, it’s going to be quite the show.

The race cars

There are 15 run groups taking part, including:

  • Pre-1940 Sports Racing and Touring Cars
  • 1927-1951 Racing Cars
  • 1955-1962 GT
  • 1973-1981 FIA, IMSA, GT, GTX, AAGT
  • 1981-1991 IMSA GTP
  • 1955-1961 Sports Racing over 2000cc
  • 1947-1955 Sports Racing and GT
  • 1973-1991 IMSA GTU, GTO/Trans-Am
  • 1958-1960 Formula Junior – front engine & drum brake cars

A special celebration

The race groups above are just a part of what the event has in store. This year, the reunion will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of Formula Junior, the 70th anniversary of Ferrari and the track’s own 60th birthday.

Visitors will get to enjoy all of these celebrations, alongside watching motorsport legends hit the track and tackle the Q&A stand. This year already has Jenson Button confirmed to race in a McLaren M23.
