Mexican Storm

Pedro Rodriguez skates his Flat-12 Porsche 917 down through Paddock Hill bend alongside Jacky Ickx’s Ferrari 512S on his way to victory in the BOAC 1000km at Brands Hatch in 1970. These two are trailed by the 917 of Attwood, Herrman and Lins, the Porsche 908 of Alain De Cadenet and Jorge Omar Del Rio and the Filipinetti 512S of Muller and Parkes. In torrential conditions, Rodriguez was black-flagged by the Clerk of the Course for dangerous driving early in the race. Having come into the pits to be told off (!) Pedro proceeded to give spectators, drivers and officials alike a driving lesson, eventually beating the field by some five laps and laying claim to being the greatest wet-weather driver the world has ever seen.
