The new year is almost upon us, but let’s not wish away 2018 too soon. December is set to be a great month for classic car and classic motorcycle enthusiasts in spite of the chillier temperatures. The salt isn’t on the road yet, so why not enjoy your classic (at least until the first day of winter on 21st December) before the snow starts to fall.
Footman James rounds up the must-attend events for all automotive enthusiasts. From smaller club events to larger-scale ones, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this December.
Who doesn’t love singing Christmas carols around their Lotus Carltons (other cars are available!)? Starting at 19:00 at the Ace Café in London and finishing at around 22:30, join in for free hot mince pies and chat about classics with like-minded enthusiasts. All welcome, without charge.
A gruelling test for any car and driver, the Le Jog trial - run by HERO Events - starts from Land’s End on Saturday 8 December and will see various classics criss-cross their way through Wales to end up at John O’Groats on 11 December. A 1,450-mile, £3,624 event, all cars taking part must be built before the beginning of 1986. Talk to event organisers about being at the start and end of the rally to spectate.
While others will be enjoying bubble and squeak and turkey sandwiches, the Ulster Pre-War Austin Club has other plans. Planning to take place at Hillsborough Town Square on Boxing Day, the event opens from midday.
Meanwhile, don’t forget to register your interest in Footman James’ new event for 2019, Coffee & Chrome, which will be held at Chateau Impney in Worcestershire on Sunday 6th January 2019. Limited to 200 cars, you won’t want to miss this one.
