Hailed as Spring’s ‘best classic car show’ the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show returns to the NEC in March, for another edition of one of the most popular events in the motoring calendar. March 2018 saw over 20,000 visitors flock to the NEC across the 3 days to view the array of cars on display – from Concours cars to rusty Barn Finds.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The show regularly attracts over 150 car clubs and as the beating heart of the classic car community they are well represented. Clubs produce fantastic displays, show restoration projects and provide advice and conversation to visitors about their favourite marque and model.

CLASSIC CARS

You’re bound to find a car that piques your interest at the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration show. With over 1,000 examples of classic cars in varying states, from Porsches to Austins and Fords to Ferraris, visitors are sure to be taken through time and be hit with a wave of nostalgia.

Some of 2018’s special cars on display included:

  • 1951 Lancia Aurelia B10 Berlina, which was thought to be the only one of its kind in the UK
  • Rally MGB that competed in the 1968 London to Sydney Marathon, after being rescued from a scrapyard
  • 92 Saab prototypes, this rare car finally made its UK debut and was joined by the two other surviving examples

BARN FINDS

Home to the largest UK’s Barn Find display, the show unites around 20 examples and showcases them in their various states of repair. The cars will vie to be crowned the overall winner.

Last year’s display consisted of:

  • 80’s Range Rover left to crumble at the back of a garage
  • 1973 Triumph TR6 which had been off the road for 36 years
  • 1954 Jowett Jupiter Sports, a rare model which had been left alone for 40 years

If you or someone you know has a classic car lurking somewhere, why not try and unearth it for the 2019 show? If you’re interested in participating in the Barn Find display, you can send two pictures and a brief description (including make and model) here.

CLASSIC CAR AUCTIONS

Classic car auctions are held frequently at Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, with 130 out of 161 classic cars on offer sold throughout the 3 days of the show – which totalled an incredible £2.1 million last year!

There was a lot of competitive bidding for many of the cars, with some of the most notable lots including the ‘highest price paid at auction’ for a 1972 Alfa Montreal (sold above £59,400). But it was the 1948 Jaguar ‘Mark IV’ Drophead Coupe which stole visitor’s attention on day two. The special Jaguar managed to clinch £40,700 (twice its upper estimate)

TRADER VILLAGE & AUTOJUMBLE

One of the best browsing spaces is the Trader Village and Autojumble which is packed with all the spare parts you could ever need. Whether you’re searching for that elusive spare part or a piece of motoring automobilia, you’re sure to locate something to fit your interests in this section. Clothing, literature and tools will also frequent the stalls, so make sure you come and pick up a bargain.
