Record year for Silverstone Classic

29 January, 2014

The Silverstone Classic is set to enjoy a milestone event this year with a record-breaking 84 classic car clubs already signed up to attend the event.

It emphatically surpasses the previous high of 77 clubs in attendance in 2013, meaning this summer's historic race meeting should be an especially memorable one. All of which makes for a rather exciting proposition for classic car enthusiasts who will be treated to the customary array of beautiful models, including a special on-track cavalcade to mark 50 years of the iconic Ford Mustang already confirmed for this year's event.

There are practical, as well as aesthetic benefits on offer too, as representatives from Footman James will be in attendance this year to discuss individual’s requirements on its range of Classic Car and Classic Bike insurance products, as well as a number of other useful services.

To give a tantalising taster for any newcomers to the kind of quality that can be expected at the Silverstone Classic, recent highlights have included record parades of E-type Jaguars, Ferrari F40s and Porsche 911s.

Among the newcomers attending this time around will be the Rover P6 Club, the Royal Air Force Mini Club and the Berkeley Enthusiasts Club, which will be enjoying a double celebration at the event as it marks its 50th anniversary. These newcomers will be joined by more established attendees at the prestigious gathering, including Aston Martins, Bentleys, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, MGs, Morgans, MX5s, Porsches and a wonderfully diverse range of others such as the annual BMW Zedfest of Z-badged cars.

“Last year we had more than 9,000 classic cars on display at the Silverstone Classic and it seems certain that we will top that number this summer," said event director Nick Wigley.

Early-bird savings are currently on offer for classic car enthusiasts wanting to snap up tickets well in advance, with general admission tickets already said to be selling fast. As well as the stunning displays and on-track racing events, crowds at the Silverstone Classic are also entertained by rock concerts and family activities.

This year's event runs from 25th to 27th July and further details, including ticket options, can be found on the revamped Silverstone Classic website.
