The History

A Ford Escort Twin Cam sounds harmless, but we all know why we love the Twin Cam more than anyone. A 110bhp would get the attention of many people, but back in 1969 this classic car would be a beast as it has a shocking amount of power.

Despite only 1,263 of these rally cars ever being produced, the Ford Escort Twin Cam went on to become one of the most successful rally cars in history and this classic competition car ended up competing in the 1969 and 1970 Lombard RAC rallies, amongst many others.

A few years later, this rally car suffered a heavy blow and fell to be the subject of a comprehensive restoration project by Burton Engineering. This may sound awful, but it was not the be all or end all as this rally car came out on top as the restoration work carried out made this classic better than new!

Its history is fully documented with contemporary rally reports, photographs, copies of Autosport magazine confirming the Ford’s competition history and photographs. With all this the rally car is now eligible to race in many well-known events, including the Historic Rally Championship and the MSA British Historic Rally Championship.

The DVLA stated that the vehicle is ‘historically important’, reissuing it with its original registration number, CFM 342G and original log book and MOT certificates.

What The Market Think

The Market say that good Twin Cams are now selling for around £30,000 and rising, with the very best going for double than that. Given that this rally car is one of the best you’ll ever find, their guide price has been put at £50,000 - £60,000; factoring in the classics remarkable history and wouldn’t be surprised if the Ford went for more than this.

The Market want this special rally car to go to a good home and are wanting it to sell; they have therefore set a reserved price that is considerably lower than the guide price. There is also a ‘Buy Now Price’ of £46,000 if you want to grab this now.
